Our Vision

At Demena, we aim to empower women affected by sexual exploitation, including rape survivors and sex workers, through rehabilitation, education, agricultural activities and healthcare.

Our commitment extends to creating a safe, inclusive environment across diverse religions and landscapes in urban and rural Ethiopia. Through partnerships, we envision a future where these women achieve self-sufficiency, breaking the cycle of poverty.

Our unwavering vision is a transformed society where every woman discovers her voice, fulfills aspirations and contributes meaningfully to her community. We’re dedicated to creating lasting change for a brighter and fairer future.

Our Values

We believe in empowering women to take control of their lives and destinies.

Compassion lies at the heart of everything we do. We approach the challenges faced by women with empathy, understanding and sensitivity.

We uphold the rights and worth of each woman we serve, promoting a culture of dignity and respect.

We are diverse and inclusive, valuing the unique experiences and backgrounds of women from all walks of life. Our programmes are designed to be accessible and beneficial to all regardless of religion, ethnicity or location.

We recognise that meaningful change is achieved through collaboration and cooperation. We actively seek partnerships with stakeholders, communities and other organisations to maximise our impact.

Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond the environment. We strive for long-term impact by promoting economically viable, socially responsible and environmentally conscious projects and initiatives.

It is a continual pursuit; we seek innovative solutions and approaches to address the evolving needs and challenges faced by women affected by sexual exploitation during conflict and war. Embracing innovation allows us to be effective and responsive in our endeavours.

What We Do

Support for Survivors

Our primary focus is on rape victims and sex workers who have experienced trauma and hardship. We provide a range of resources including counselling, legal assistance, training and skill development and medical support to address their individual needs.

Research

We prioritise researching sexual assault, human trafficking and the welfare of sex workers to better understand and address these challenges in our community, aiming for effective solutions. Accurate information helps raise awareness and develop mitigation plans. By raising awareness, we help dismantle the stigma associated with sexual assault, human trafficking and the rights of sex workers.

Local Collaboration

We believe in collective action for greater impact. Partnering with local charities and government bodies that share our values, we aim to create an extensive network of support.
