Demena prioritises projects that:
- Centre their activities around empowering vulnerable women, enabling them to drive change.
- Address overlooked or neglected issues faced by raped and sex worker women of all ages.
- Embrace innovation and unconventional approaches to transform these women’s lives.
How to Submit
Demena accepts applications throughout the year. Please download the form and send it to us as a ‘document file’ via email. You can download the form here. Application Process
2. Following the review of your initial submission, we'll provide notification within the specified timeframe.
3. A percentage of the funds will be allocated at the initial stage, with the remainder released based on the project's performance.
Our Evaluation Criteria
- Organisational History: Proven credibility in any part of Ethiopia.
- Project Merit: Clear articulation of outcomes and impacts. Welcome proposals aiding women affected by sexual violence and supporting sex workers to improve socio-economic conditions and alleviate poverty.
- Budget: Concisely demonstrate the budget’s suitability. Show commitment to diverse funding sources. Execute projects directly without transferring funds to third parties.

Local charities, organisations and governmental bodies supporting rape victims and sex workers in Ethiopia are welcome to apply for funding from us.
Yes, Demena will consider both short and long-term projects, provided they demonstrate sustainability.
Demena accepts projects from both newly registered and established charities and organisations.
Calls for project proposals, along with the required information and deadlines, will be posted on our charity website, social media channels and local newspaper.
